- Begin on a Monday, Wednesday or Basant Panchami: Rinse the mala in Gangajal, let it dry and offer it before Goddess Saraswati.
- Chant: ॐ ह्रीं नमः (Om Hreem Namah), or a Saraswati mantra, 108 times.
- For japa: Move one bead at a time with the thumb and middle finger, and turn back at the guru bead.
- To wear: Wear it around the neck while studying or working.
Care tips: Oil the beads lightly once a month and remove the mala before bathing with soap.
