Damodara Shaligram
A Damodara Shaligram is a natural Shaligram from the Gandaki River in Nepal linked with Lord Krishna as Damodar, the child Krishna tied with a rope around his waist by Mother Yashoda. It is especially worshipped in the month of Kartik for family love, devotion and the blessings of Krishna.

The story of Damodar is one of the sweetest in the Bhagavatam: little Krishna, caught stealing butter, is tied with a rope (dama) around his belly (udara) by Mother Yashoda. The Damodara Shaligram celebrates this loving form of Krishna.

What is a Damodara Shaligram?
It is traditionally identified by its large size, a durva-green tone, a small chakra in the middle, a small opening and a single yellowish line. Some have two chakras and a cracked outer surface.

- Place it on a clean cloth in the home temple.
- Bathe it with water, or panchamrit on Ekadashi.
- Offer tulsi leaves, butter or makhan-mishri, and a flower.
- Light a ghee diya, especially every evening in Kartik.
- Chant the Damodarashtakam or ॐ दामोदराय नमः (Om Damodaraya Namah).
How to check if a Damodara Shaligram is genuine?
