A 5 Mukhi Nepali Rudraksha is a natural Rudraksha bead from Nepal with five clear lines running from top to base. It represents Kalagni Rudra, a form of Lord Shiva, and is linked to Jupiter. It is traditionally worn for a calm mind, clear thinking, good health and steady spiritual growth, and anyone can wear it.

If there is one Rudraksha almost every spiritual seeker in India has worn, it is the 5 Mukhi. Rishis strung it into their japa malas, and families still pass it down as a protective bead. Its five natural lines stand for the five faces of Lord Shiva and the five elements that make up all of life.
The 5 Mukhi Nepali Rudraksha is the most respected form of this bead. Grown in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal, it forms larger, with deeper lines and bold natural bumps on its surface. At Aum Tatva, we have sourced it from Nepal for over two decades, and every bead we offer is lab-certified.
The 5 Mukhi (Panchmukhi) Rudraksha is ruled by Kalagni Rudra, the fierce yet compassionate form of Shiva who burns away ignorance. The Shiva Purana describes it as the bead that frees the wearer from the burden of past wrong deeds.
Its five lines are linked to the five faces of Shiva: Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Ishana. They also stand for the Panch Tatva, the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space.
The ruling planet is Jupiter (Brihaspati, or Guru), the planet of wisdom, teaching and good fortune. Many traditions connect this bead with the throat chakra (Vishuddha), which governs honest and clear expression.
The 5 Mukhi grows in Nepal, Indonesia and India, and all three are genuine Rudraksha. They differ in size, depth and feel:
| Feature | Nepali | Indonesian | Indian |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bead size | Large and bold | Small and light | Medium |
| Lines (mukhi) | Deep and well defined | Fine and shallow | Medium |
| Surface | Prominent natural bumps | Smooth | Moderate |
| Best suited for | Single-bead pendant or bracelet | 108-bead japa malas | Malas and daily wear |
Traditionally, the Nepali bead is considered the most powerful because of its size and deep lines. If you want one bead to wear close to the heart, the Nepali 5 Mukhi is the classic choice.
Rudraksha supports your wellbeing alongside medical care. It does not replace a doctor’s advice or treatment.
The 5 Mukhi is one of the few Rudraksha beads considered safe and helpful for everyone. It is especially valued by:
Men, women, children and elders can all wear it.

The 5 Mukhi is the most common Rudraksha, so it is rarely faked as a whole bead. The bigger risk is a 5 Mukhi with extra lines carved into it and sold as a costlier 6 or 7 Mukhi. You may also come across wooden or resin copies and look-alike seeds such as Bhadraksha.
A genuine 5 Mukhi has:
The X-ray is the most reliable test. That is why every Aum Tatva bead comes with a report from RGTL (Rudraksha and Gems Testing Lab), an independent lab trusted by premium brands across India.
Aum Tatva is part of Aggarwal Rudraksha, a family that has traded Rudraksha for generations. Since 2003, we have sourced our beads directly from Nepal through our own network in Kathmandu.
Our promise is simple: Vishwas ka Aadhar, a foundation of trust.

The price of an original 5 Mukhi Nepali Rudraksha depends on its size, shape, depth of lines, surface quality and certification. Larger, rounder beads with sharp, deep lines cost more. Nepali beads also cost more than Indonesian or Indian ones. Message us for the current price of certified beads.
No group is traditionally forbidden from wearing the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha. It is considered the safest Rudraksha for everyone, including children and elders. The only rule is to keep it clean and treat it with respect, as you would any spiritual object.
Yes, women can wear a 5 Mukhi Rudraksha. The scriptures do not restrict it by gender. Some women prefer to remove it during their monthly cycle as a personal or family custom, but this is a choice, not a rule.
Yes, you can, but many people remove it at night to protect the thread and the bead. If you remove it, keep it in a clean place such as your prayer room or a small box, and wear it again in the morning.
No, the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha has no known side effects. It is a natural seed and is considered a gentle, calming bead. If the thread or capping irritates your skin, change the material. Buy a certified bead to avoid treated or artificial copies.
Neither is better; both are genuine Rudraksha. Nepali beads are larger, with deeper lines, and are preferred as a single pendant or bracelet. Indonesian beads are smaller and lighter, and are ideal for 108-bead japa malas. Choose based on how you plan to wear it.
The mantra for 5 Mukhi Rudraksha is Om Hreem Namah (ॐ ह्रीं नमः), as given in the Shiva Purana. Chant it 108 times when you first wear the bead, and as often as you can after that. Some texts give Om Hreem Hum Namah as a variant.
The most reliable way is an X-ray test, which shows one seed chamber for each of the five lines. Also check that the lines run naturally from top to bottom without cuts or carving. A report from an independent lab such as RGTL gives you proof of authenticity.
Yes, the 5 Mukhi combines well with almost every other Rudraksha. It is often worn with the 1, 7 or 11 Mukhi, or as part of a Siddha Mala. Because it is calming and balanced, it is considered a safe base bead for any combination.
